The Friendswood Development Company established the master-planned community known as Kingwood real estate. The community was named for King Ranch, the former owner of the land.

A firework display is held in the evening along with live music and a fair. Christmas in the Park is held in December at Town Center Park, offering food, live music and skits and ends with the lighting of the tree.
